Erdenet was built as a monocity based on large deposits of copper and molybdenum. The city was completely designed and built by Soviet engineers and architects, according to Soviet town plans and norms. Because of that people here speak a little Russian. Everything visually is almost the same as in Ulaanbaatar; chaotically scattered houses on the hills and Soviet monuments of friendship. There is a half-destroyed stadium, a cinema and a writing on the wall ‘Fuck Russia’. While Russia might be convinced about the mutual friendship, Mongols might think otherwise.
