Hyderabad’s markets offer a fascinating glimpse at one of the less visible trades in this historic city. During today’s anti-meat sentiment sweeping much of the west and the general disconnect between product and consumer, I especially enjoy exploring meat markets and watching the incredibly skilled butchers at work. Learning about the, unfamiliar to me, process of mass meat production in this part of the world should be of interest to anyone who wants to know where their food comes from. In this photo essay I followed the chickens from the moment they are brought to the market, still alive, to the point they are placed on the meat counter ready to be sold.
