Xizhou Town, visually similar to Weishan is located north from Dali, by the lake. With few similarities, but unlike Dali, it isn’t overrun by tourists. Local government along with its famous neighbour has implemented policies to maintain Xizhou’s traditional appearance. It is famous for its traditional Bai architecture, which is characterised by richly decorated gates, white walls with monochromic paintings, spacious courtyards, hexagonal honeycomb patterns and a carefully maintained balance between structural simplicity and elegant details.
