Air Itam is a hill town near to George Town. Almost a century ago Air Itam was made-up mainly of wooden houses, which were later impacted greatly by a large fire. After that incident new houses were made of brick instead. They may look boring, but at least they’re safe. Air Itam Village is the base for visiting Southeast Asia’s biggest Chinese temple; one of the main reasons that local tourism thrives. The Temple is famous for its pagoda which is comprised of Chinese, Siamese and Burmese style towers. The temple complex is large and sprawls over the hills above the village. Local food is the second reason to come to Air Itam. Besides that there is not much else to see.
