Taxkorgan is a border town of China, located in the Pamirs at an altitude of 3,600 meters where the borders of Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Pakistan meet. Taxkorgan was a city of the Great Silk Road where travellers of antiquity passed by stone fortress, calling it the Gates to China. Today it is populated by Sarikolians and Wakhans, who in China and Tajikistan are classified as Tajiks.
