Hill near Palitana is a major pilgrimage centre for ancient Indian religion followers Jains. Similarly to the idea of pilgrimage to Mecca for muslims, Jains also believe that a visit to this group of temples is essential at least once in a lifetime. And since the whole complex was built for the gods even the priests aren’t allowed to stay overnight. Every day, early in the morning Jains together with pilgrims are beginning their two hour walk up the hill.
